Circa 1890, generous sized oak and leather Captain’s chair/desk chair. The horseshoe shaped chair has a raised back with a roll over top and deep buttons. From this come the 2 shaped arms covered in leather and held in place by turned uprights, which are fixed to the seat with rectangular sections. At the back of the chair there is a small shaped splat with open fretwork. The removable squab cushion again has deep buttoning and beneath this there is a further thin leather cushion which sits in the seat. The seat is scooped out of the solid oak and has wonderful colour and patination. At the back there are 4 rectangular shaped legs which are chamfered on the inside with a small curl at the end. The front legs are turned and tapering. Uniting the legs is a turned cross over H stretcher with a larger bulbous section where the cross stretcher joins. The chair is sturdy, good size, and excellent colour.
