MSJ&AR Railway Bridge Plate Number 9

MSJ&AR
Manchester South Junction and Altrincham Railway
Bridge Plate
Number 9
Cast Iron
Approximate dimensions: 37.3cm x 24.2cm, weight 4.4kg.
The Manchester South Junction and Altrincham Railway (MSJ&AR) was a suburban railway which operated an 8+1⁄2-mile (14 km) route between Altrincham in Cheshire and Manchester London Road railway station (now Piccadilly). It opened in 1849. In the mid-19th century, the MSJ&AR passed to joint ownership by the London and North Western Railway (L&NWR) and the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway (MS&LR). The MSJ&AR owned its own coaches, but the haulage was provided by locomotives belonging to both the L&NWR and MS&LR companies.
As you can see from the photos, the plate is very pockmarked.
It has been recently repainted on both sides with Hammerite Direct to Rust paint so is ready for display or to go by your front door.
A rare sign.
