Large Bronze Figure by Chiparus

A large (over 2' 4" tall) patinated and cold painted bronze figure by Demetre H Chiparus (1886-1947). Entitled "Egyptian Dancer", the figure stands on a brown veined marble plinth inset with a bronze plaque. The dancer is signed on the underside of her foot and a signature is also engraved into the marble base.
Demetre Chiparus was born n Romania and in 1909 moved to Italy to study sculpture under Raffaello Romanelli. In 1912 he travelled to Paris to attend the Ecole des Beaux Arts.
The mature style of Chiparus took shape at the beginning of the 1920's, remarkable for their bright and decorative effect. His subjects included dancers of the Russian Ballet and French Theatre. His work was influenced by an interest in Egypt after the Pharaoh Tutankhamen's tomb was excavated.
This figure is an outstanding example of his Egyptian period. All items are sold with a 14 day money back guarantee. In the unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase, we will gladly issue a refund (excluding carriage costs). The item must be returned in the same condition as it left us.
