King Charles I -a pottery pipe tamper. 19thc

A clay pipe tamper commemorating King Charles 1. The face of the king is coloured red, the hair silvery and the robe purple. The lower section is glazed. On the back, at the base of the head, are the letters C R 1
The red face is explained by the fact that King Charles I was executed by beheading in 1649. It was probably made to commemorate this event in 1849 as I believe it to be 19th century not earlier.
The piece is undamaged but the high points of the colouring are worn and generally faded.
2.25 inches high
