A George IV Rosewood bergère chair having an upholstered back and seat. The front rail and arms with inset panel detail and terminating in scrolled acanthus leaves. Raised on a reeded front leg with splayed back leg and retaining the original high quality brass cup castors. Original finish and rich patina. Attributed to Gillows, Circa 1825.

This chair is based on the 'Curricle' chair as fist illustrated by Thomas Sheraton in The Cabinet Dictionary, London 1803. The style was then adapted by Gillows of London, who supplied similar caned chairs to Tatton Park, Cheshire, and later reinvented the design in various woods with alternative ornamentation. ( S. Stuart Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730 - 1840, 2008).
