George III Cuban Mahogany Gentleman's Armchair

A superior quality substantial solid Cuban mahogany armchair with fine fret carved interwoven splat, intricate bow shaped top rail with acanthus carved ears and, between top rail and splat, two finely carved drop tassels.
Lovely shape to the back legs which kick out at the floor. The outswept arms on curved supports terminating in fluidly carved scrolls.
A very substantial and heavy chair, the deep seat rail over squared legs to front and rear with beautifully chamfered inner faces and original glue blocks (with V shape clamp points and evidence of original makers batons) co-joined by an offset box stretcher - all in the manner of Thomas Chippendale.
In very good original condition, peg jointed throughout, no worm, minor restorations, small dings and bruises consistent with age and careful use. The drop seat pad newly upholstered in a top quality white silk and navy cut velvet fabric in an 18th century design.
Comfortable and spacious, solid with no weakness and entirely suitable for use. A particularly good example in the finest quality mahogany made by a highly skilled hand in c. 1765.
Dimensions (all max) are:
39.5 inches high
23.5 inches wide
20 inches from floor to top of seat rail
26.75 inches from floor to top of arms
23 inches from seat to top of back
21.5 inches wide between arms
For metric please multiply by 2.5
I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
