Charles Sillem Lidderdale is a very well known, highly regarded and well collected Victorian artist. He was a genre artist who specialised in head and shoulder paintings of young attractive women. He exhibited at the Royal Academy on 36 occasions and at the British Institute many times. His paintings often come up at the major auction houses and usually make well into 4 figures.
Painting Details
This is an important painting by Lidderdale that was exhibited at the 1861 Royal Academy exhibition and was even reviewed by the Art Journal at the time. The painting is a fanciful depiction of Richard Arkwright in his early years. The painting is beautifully painted and monogramed in the bottom left CSL and dates 1860-1861. The painting has its original retail label on the reverse for Royal Exchange Fine Arts. The painting is housed in it’s original ornate carved frame.
