A gorgeous Stratton vanity set in the original case. It absolutely beautiful. As you would expect from this maker, the compact and lipstick holder are high quality luxury items. The 1950s was the heyday of Stratton accessories. Both items are decorated with the particularly collectible fleur de lis design. The powder compact and the lipstick holder are made from highly polished gilding metal (brass) which was coated at the point of manufacture with a layer of transparent enamel. This process guarantees that these accessories will never tarnish or need to be cleaned. This type of engine turned design has resulted in such a superbly rendered finish that it guarantees fingerprints will not show. The Stratton 'Princess' powder compact is suitable for loose face powder or as a handbag mirror. All clasps, hinges and the self-opening inner lid work perfectly. The powder mirror compact opens to reveal a very good bevelled mirror which gives an accurate reflection. The inner lid has an engraved design of vertical lines, the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo and it is signed 'Stratton'. The original sifter is in place. It is in good condition - as is the whole set. The base is decorated with smooth tone golden stars. The lipstick holder is also super. The original hard presentation case is just as delightful as the vanities it contains. The outer case is beige with subtle patterns. The interior of the lid is lined with cream satin which is signed 'Stratton' in gilt lettering. The base is lined with deep crimson velvet. Custom made recesses hold the compact mirror and lipstick holder neatly in place. To see the splendid workmanship close up click on image three. The compact mirror measures 3" & weighs 92.7 grams. The lipstick holder measures just over 2" & weighs 28 grams.
