Cased Set of 6 Art Nouveau Silver Buttons, 1902

This is a superb set of 6 Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Buttons in their original case from famous retailer Dickins & Jones.
The buttons feature a quintessentially Art Nouveau design of a female head with long flowing hair. The set are almost certainly French in origin and have been imported by Thomas White of London in 1902, who would then have supplied them to Dickins & Jones. As well as importing, Thomas White was also a specialist button maker who was in business from the late 1880s into the early years of the 20th century. In 1902, Dickins & Jones were still in their original premises of 232-234 Regent Street, which they had occupied since Regent Street was newly built.
The 6 buttons come in their original red leather box with gold edging, with a blue velvet cushion for the buttons to sit in and a cream silk lining bearing the Dickins & Jones badge in gold ink. As well as the 6 buttons, the case contasins the clips that could be used to hold them in place for temporary use on a shirt or jacket. This is a truly luxurious set.
The buttons are in very good condition with no dings, dents or damage. The box is also in good condition with just a few tiny scuffs to the outside, which is only to be expected after nearly 120 years! Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The buttons are each 1.6cm / 0.6" in diameter and the set of 6 weighs 13g / 0.46oz of solid silver. They are a versatile size and could be used on antique, vintage or modern clothing or would make an elegant addition to a button collection.
One button has the full set of hallmarks with the others having a reduced set. This was common on very small items. The full set of marks shows the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter "g" for 1902, the F in a circle mark, which stands for Foreign Made and was used to identify imports prior to 1904, and the TW in a diamond importers' mark for Thomas White. The other buttons have the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the F for Foreign Made and the TW importers' mark for Thomas White.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery which includes cover for the value of the items.
