Attractive Large Antique Mahogany Bureau Desk
A lovely antique mahogany bureau. We date this bureau to the early 20th century.
The bureau sits on four Queen Ann legs with a shapely apron. The bureau is fitted with a drop front writing slope over three graduated drawers. There is a small gallery to the rear and sides of the top surface.
The drop front is supported on two wooden support rails which automatically slide out from beside the top drawer when the drop front is opened. The drop front and drawer fronts have an attractive cross banding.
The interior is fitted with various pigeon holes and small drawers and the drop front is fitted with a leather writing surface.
The main drawers are fitted with pairs of decorative swan neck handles each mounted on circular backplates. The drawers and drop down writing slope are fitted with locks (key is supplied).
The bureau has a height of 42" (107cm), a width of 30" (76cm) and an overall depth of 18" (46cm).
This lovely antique mahogany bureau remains in a solid condition with surface markings commensurate with age and usage. There is some minor mellowing to the finish and some slight wear to some edges. The leather has some lifting due to the wood underneath.
This remains a very stylish and elegant antique mahogany bureau. It will continue to provide sterling service for many years to come.
