Arts & Crafts Oak Extending Dining Table - 12ft
A super late Victorian extending dining table in quarter-sawn oak with four additional leaves and dating to c.1880. In the Arts & Crafts taste with canted corners to the rectangular top and a moulded edge it stands on four ring-turned and reeded baluster shaped legs with studded brass caps and brown pottery castors. A Joseph Fitter winding screw mechanism smoothly extends the table from 5ft9 to 12ft allowing it to seat up to 14-16 people if using all four leaves.
Repolished fairly recently but still showing signs of age and use including some slight watermarks to the top and some shrinkage lines to the legs and frieze. Impressed with the number 2527 and the leaves stamped with Roman numerals this table has a beautiful grain to the top with clear medullary rays, it could be stripped and repolished to a lighter colour if preferred.
Extended Length - 11ft 10in / 142in (361cm)
Closed Length - 5ft 9 3/4in/ 69 3/4in (177cm)
Width - 4ft 1 / 49in (124.5cm)
Height - 30in (76.5cm)
Legroom under frieze - 22 3/8in (57cm)
Leaves - 16in, 17 3/4in, 18 1/2in and 19 3/4in (40.5cm, 45cm, 47cm and 50cm)
