Art Deco Onyx and Lapis Lazuli by Henry Griffiths
A truly smart and elegant box in polished white Onyx and trimmed in Lapis Lazuli.
Art Deco in era, dating to around 1930/1940 the box is marked by the English silversmith H G & S for Henry Griffiths and Sons. Most of these boxes were trimmed in sterling silver or silver gilt (gold over silver), I am unable to sell as such as there isn't a hallmark, so am selling as gold on metal for accuracy. The hinge is also marked "Made in England". The stone is also engraved on the underside "Made In England".
The shape with it's cantered corners is particularly nice and the patina better than most with a bright shiny finish.
A highly collectable box in excellent condition measuring 6 1/4" x 4" x 2",
