Antique Pair of Mahogany Inlaid Corner Cabinets

A superb pair of Victorian mahogany marquetry inlaid corner cabinets of exceptional quality, dating to circa 1880. Beautifully proportioned and exquisitely decorated, these elegant cabinets were crafted to make full use of a room's corners while providing refined display and storage.
Each cabinet has a shaped triangular top with a bowed front, richly inlaid with an elegant musical lyre surrounded by scrolling foliage and floral marquetry within a finely banded border. The serpentine frieze below is beautifully decorated with trailing harebells, quatrefoils and ribbon swags, demonstrating the outstanding standard of craftsmanship associated with the finest English cabinet makers of the late Victorian period.
The graceful bowed doors are veneered in beautifully figured mahogany and centred with superb marquetry panels depicting classical urns overflowing with flowers, enclosed within finely detailed oval laurel wreaths. The contrasting timbers create a striking depth of colour, enhanced by delicate satinwood, tulipwood and other exotic timber inlays.
The cabinets are further enriched with crossbanded borders and elegant line inlays, while the canted corners terminate in finely tapered square legs with spade feet, giving the cabinets a wonderfully refined architectural appearance.
Opening to reveal spacious interiors, each cabinet retains two shaped shelves providing generous storage for china, glassware, books or decorative objects. Their versatile size makes them equally suited to a drawing room, dining room, hallway or study.
A truly decorative and highly practical pair of Victorian corner cabinets of museum-quality craftsmanship, offering timeless elegance and exceptional decorative appeal.
Condition
Excellent antique condition having been cleaned and traditionally polished. The colour is rich and even, the marquetry is crisp and complete and both cabinets are solid, sturdy and ready for use.
