I believe that this fabulous figural match striker / Go-To-Bed to be German in origin retaining two wonderful little glass eyes.

Beautifully cast, the lid opens to reveal a chamber where non-safety matches would be stored (matches can not be shipped with this piece) a match would be struck on the base which has a textured base for striking purpose. there is a single hole to the right of the cat on the base where one lit match would be placed creating enough light to get to the top of the stairs, hence, Go-To-Bed.

Dating to around 1880, it remains in excellent condition measuring 2 1/4" x 2 1/8" x 3 1/2" tall.
