This is an antique mayoral chair. An English, oak ecclesiastic armchair with Gothic Revival taste, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1880.
A delight of strong Gothic overtones and Pugin-esque forms
Displays a desirable aged patina and in very good order
Quality oak stocks show fine grain interest and an abundance of medullary rays
Presents rich caramel hues beneath a wax polish finish
Upright, formal appearance, suited to grace high office
Apex upper rail adorned with acanthus leaf carvings
Medallion to centre with heraldic image over extended leaf forms
Enthusiastically decorative backrest with circular arcade field panels
Stout arms with highly distinctive leaf carved knuckles
Raised upon stepped, arched supports
