Antique Mahogany Desk Stationery Rack.
This is a beautifully made and very stylish antique mahogany stationery rack. It could stand on a table or desk, or be hung on the wall.
It would date to the late Georgian or early Victorian period, and remains in excellent original condition.
It has been finely made using thin sheets of straight grain mahogany throughout, and the design is both subtle and thoughtful .
The face of each of the 6 graduated pigeon holes is detailed with inscribed score line decoration, and have smooth chamfered top edges. The smaller pockets towards the front are also shaped with finger holes to allow easy access to their contents.
There are 2 lidded compartments at the front - both with brass knobs. The left hand chamber holds an old, ink bottle. That on the right hand side is nicely sloped on the inside to take stamps and allow them to be removed easily with the finger.
The drawer below is lined with mahogany, of rebated and nailed construction - all totally original.
The back has a hole in it for hanging on the wall.
