This is an early 18th century bible box raised on stand.

This delightful English oak box is dressed with a pair of wonderful thick gauge brass strap hinges with matching lock escutcheon. The field panels to the front feature naive, four pointed star motifs with the whole piece eminating a charming patination, especially evident around the hinges where the oak is lighter as a result of the years of polishing.

The lower part of the lid is fitted with a stay allowing the box to be used as a lectern and opening the lid reveals generous storage and four drawers with turned pulls.

The stand, with deep, formed frieze is raised on turned legs and stretchers featuring attractive, helical twists.

Superb period charm and in good antique order, this piece is delivered waxed and polished ready for the home.
