A French Repeating Carriage clock circa 1880.

A French Repeating Carriage clock circa 1880 with original Moroccan leather case.
A delightful carriage clock which has recently been serviced and keeps very good time. It has an 8 day movement and keeps the exact time with the Internet clock. It performs the full chimes on the hour, and a single chime on the half hour. There is a repeat button on the top of the clock which when depressed re-chimes the past hour.
It has an attractive face with Roman numerals for the hours, and Arabic numerals for the seconds. It has blue steel hands showing the time. The round center of the face is elaborately designed which is complimented by the plain brushed brass surround. The main body of the clock is made of brass which is adorned with copper gilding. The corinthian columns on each corner are copper gilded, as are the swags to the tops and bottoms of each side. The design work is on all four of the sides which is a true mark of quality and makes for a very majestic looking clock. All the glass panels are bevelled and the door to the rear has a snug fit.
It dates from the mid to the late Victorian period, circa 1880 and is in very good condition. There are no marks which would indicate the maker, but I am assured that it is French in origin.
It has the original Moroccan leather case, with glass front window, key compartment with original key, and also a button to trigger the repeat function.
Altogether an attractive, quality working clock, in very good condition.
The case measures 8 inches or 20 centimeters high with the width and depth both being 5.5 inches or 14 centimeters. The clock itself measures 7.5 inches or 19 centimeters high with landslides being 4.25 inches or 11 centimeters.
UK packaging and Post Office Special Delivery with tracking and signature costs £ 15.00.
This can be collected by arrangement in either Stamford or Newark or delivered locally to either.
