2 x George III Silver Salt Spoons, W. Sumner, 1804
This is a fine pair of George III Sterling Silver Salt Spoons in the classic Old English pattern. The spoons have the initial G elegantly engraved at the top of the stems.
The salt spoons are made in London by silversmith William Sumner and date to 1804. William Sumner was a specialist spoon maker who registered his first mark at Goldsmith's Hall in 1782. He remained in business until his death in 1807.
Condition is extremely good with no dings, dents or salt corrosion and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 215 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 9.8cm / 3.8ins long and the pair together weigh in at 15.0g / 0.53oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the London date letter I for 1804, the George III duty mark and the W.S makers' mark for William Sumner.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
