2 x George III Silver Salt Spoons, R. Turner, 1819
Here we have a fine pair of George III Sterling Silver Salt Spoons in the traditional Old English pattern. Both spoons have a letter N engraved at the top of the stems in the Old English style.
The spoons are made in London by Richard Turner and date to 1819. Richard Turner was a specialist spoon maker who was active in London from the early 1780s through until around 1820, so these salt spoons are very much towards the end of his long career.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 200 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 10.4cm / 4.1ins long and the pair together weigh in at a respectable 23.2g / 0.82oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on both spoons are crisp and clear to read, although there is only a makers' mark on one spoon. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the London date letter d for 1819, the George III duty mark and the R T makers' mark for Richard Turner.
