Description

A pair of early oak Derbyshire Chairs. As you might expect close to 350 years have left the chairs with a bit of restoration over the years, one new back upright and one new spell. I say new but it's a relative term, in the picture of the one chairback the left upright is perhaps only a hundred years old from a few inches above the seat upwards. The top spell in the last picture is not quite as old but needs a little toning down to match. There is a little fore and aft movement in the chairs due to shrinkage but only to be expected in chairs that are peg jointed and have never been glued. It would be a shame to take them apart to glue up and spoil the originality. They come with two thick squab cushions to meet the needs of 12 generations growth in our height since they were made.
DateRestoration : C1675 DimensionsA little over 40" high, the seat 16" with no loss to the original height. They come with a thick, firm squab cushion to the right height. ConditionCompletely usable with a little looseness due to old age. One replacement style to one and left upright above the seat level on the other.
