19th century Welsh teak chessel

Description

An exceptional item in every way. It being teak pretty well ties it to Pembrokeshire. Teak arrived as ballast in hundreds of small ships and local craftsmen were swift to use it for all manner of Treen objects and for larger pieces. I purchased it not so far from the county boundary, so it hasn't strayed far. Another feature that amazes is the amount of casein left adhering to both the inside and the underside of the vessel. Obviously the curd was piled in to drain before being pressed to make cheese but dairy hygiene might have been applied sometimes.
