Description

A stunning, huge 19th century French oak housekeeper's cupboard.

In a simple Empire style, with columns, brass trim, and geometric mouldings, and a flavour of Arts & Crafts design, with diagonal oak panels.
This cupboard has lovely oak figuring, topped by an elaborate cornice.
In solid oak throughout, and all peg-jointed, this piece is huge, heavy, and in exceptionally good antique condition.
It comes in two main sections, and the cornice also lifts off and on.
The interior has shelves (also in solid oak), and the locks work with a single original key.
The upper left door has a lovely original sprung iron catch and hook (photo 6).
There are a few cosmetic blemishes including stains, scratches and a scattering of small holes (in right side).
The feet are in sturdy, solid order, with one small square piece of oak trim missing (lower fore-side of the left foot - see bottom left of photo 11).
The figuring on the central narrow panels is beautiful, and both sides are matched - photos 3 & 8.

249cm overall height, 93cm base height.
58cm max. depth.
178cm max. width across top cornice.
