WW1 Verners Pattern MK VIII dated 1917 compass,the Pattern VIII compass has an arm fitted to the lid that automatically closes the transit lock when the compass is closed.There is a hairline crack in the glass which is firm and solid, this does not detract in an way from this wonderful piece of British war historyDate1910s :
