Precept Under Privy Seal of James VI dated 1604. Written in Latin onto Vellum with fragment of Privy Seal of James VI attached. Fine Initial letter and name of King James VI.

Precept under the Privy Seal of James VI dated 18th January 1604 of lands of Ballokbroya to John Cathcairt of Carletoun. The are 14 lines of Latin, has a hole at bottom left, but was obviously in the vellum when written.
John Cathcairt's family descents from Sir Alan Cathcairt who was raised to the Peerage of Scotland in approximately 1460. The Cathcairt family were involved in the Battles of Pinkie, Flodden and Longside.
