Description

James IV of Scotland Instrument of Sasine handwritten in Latin on to Vellum dated 4th November 1503. Has the fine Notary Mark of Patrick Law.
Follows on from Precept of Sasine from James IV under the Great Seal(narrated in full in the Instrument), stating the King (James IV), as Earl of Carrick had given John Blaire the five Merklands old extent of Middle Achindrane in the Earldon of Carrik and 'Sheriffdon of Are (Aye) to John Blair and Beatrice Morturne, his spouse, and other merklands acquired from John Schaw of Salqhy and merklands from William Bourne of Sauchie.
Sir James Schaw held very high office under James III including the Constabularyship of Stirling Castle and was Royal Guardian to James IV.
The Blaire Family date back to the 11th and early 12th Century. They where a very wealthy and influentual family of Ayreshire.
