Description

Victorian Valentine Curio of a Lady's pair of Gloves, dated circa 1880's. Gloves were a symobolic Folk tradition, popularised by Eugene Rimmel, as a paper expressiion of Love. Gloves repressented acceptanmce of a marriage proposal. A pair of gloves means a pair of lovers

The Green Die-cut & Embossed Gloves open to reveal a white silk sash with blue printed verse

'Oh! Whisper, love, that little verse,
My douht to end and crown my joy
A constant heart will you then bless,
With happiness naught can alloy.'

The curio has a glue mark on the reverse of the opening of the end of the gloves (left hand side), where has been in an album. Does not detract from this charming little curio.
(The white background is just to show the die-cut outline)
