Description

A rare & charming George III oak housekeepers cupboard or press dating to circa 1780 and featuring a secrétaire drawer. This lovely item has a moulded cornice with bands of fluting to the frieze, two oval panelled doors open to reveal one shaped and one full size shelf whilst the secrétaire drawer below has a beautiful original inlaid fitted interior complete with secret pull-out compartments and further fluting to the top edge. Another two drawers below provide more storage and the whole piece stands on bracket feet.

There are no keys but the cupboard door does close snuggly, the pegged joints are all tight and to assist in moving a set of castors have been added to the underside raising the piece by about 1/4in. These could be removed if preferred. There are dark spots to the base and old repairs including to the sides and bottom drawer. There is a small chip out the bottom left corner of the secrétaire drawer and drying lines to the side.
