Description

Victorian mahogany mirror-back sideboard

This is a nice mahogany inverse breakfront mirror-backed sideboard dating to the late Victorian period and with a slight Arts & Crafts influence.

The stepped mirror back has an arched carved pediment, dentil cornice and carved floral panels. There are two small shelves supported by baluster shaped turned columns with further small mirrors below. All the mirrors are the original bevelled glasses and are in very good condition.

The inverse breakfront top has a moulded edge and three freize drawers above a central section with a wide cupboard door and two single cupboard doors to either side, one fitted with two slides, the other with a shelf and drawer. The arched panelled doors are finished with ogee mouldings and the whole stands on a plinth base. All the doors have locks and come with a working key.

This is in overall good condition for it’s age. There is more veneer loss to the plinth than is usually expected, the polish is rough on the sides and the left side of the top. There is also a drying line to the top and some fade/water marks, however, it is still in very good solid useable condition if you did not wish to get it repolished.
