Description

This is a handsome George III mahogany knife box with lovely serpentine fronted shape dating from around 1790. The box has a beautiful colour and patina and has delicate inlaid ebony and satinwood stringing to the edges. The lid is inlaid with a conch and is lined inside with red crushed velvet and has been fitted as a correspondence box to interior with attractive boxwood sections. It stands on solid brass eagles claw and ball feet, has all its original brassware, handles, lock etc. The original key is present although the lock is no longer working. This has a great shape colour and patina to the mahogany and is in excellent condition, having obviously been very well looked after. The knife box stands 38 cms high by 23 cms wide by 21 cms deep.
