Description

A fine Seventeenth Century carved oak, three paneled coffer, each of the similar panels depicting two stags beneath the umbrella of the Tree of Life. The stag was considered King of the Forest, a symbol of piety, devotion and safety in God's care with the Tree of Life symbolising a fresh start in life, positive energy, good health and a bright future, a symbol of immortality, growth and strength. Possibly a commission from a gentleman for a presentation signifying an important life event.
