Description

The very attractive George III period gilded gesso framed wall mirror of rectangular form, the original mercury glass being naturally and heavily distressed, within a gilded gesso frame with gadrooned beaded surround, the whole surviving from Georgian period England.

The mirror is in very original, attractive, decorative aged condition. It is delicate, though the plate glass is in tact, and has a large amount of attractive foxing across the whole. The gesso frame has chipped losses as pictured, with around 15% of the beading lacking, The reverse is absent of its backing boards – which does mean one can see through to the wall in the areas of mirror plate loss – we are able to have some period back boards put on at cost, so if this is of interest do let us know. Please refer to the photographs for a full visual reference.

A more evocative mirror of the glory of the Georgian age would be hard to find perhaps less of a mirror and more a study of old monied decay.
