Description

A fine quality London verge, in wonderful gold repousse pair cases. Excellent overall condition. One of the best that we have had.

MOVEMENT Fine quality gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, blued screws, diamond endstone and silver regulator disk. Signed 'Wm. Turner, London'. Nice 'lace edge' to the balance cock table, typical of London watches of this period. Four square pillars.
The movement is protected by a removable gilt dustcap, also signed, and numbered (5000).
All in very fine original condition, and running well.

DIAL White enamel in almost perfect condition. There are just several very light scratches near the edge at 2. Fancy gilt hands.

INNER CASE 22ct. gold, with London hallmarks for 1763, maker JM. All in excellent condition. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut. Good high dome bull's eye crystal.

OUTER CASE A very fine 22ct. gold pair case, with wonderful repousse work. A nice heavy case with very little wear to the repousse work. No holes or repairs. The hinge and catch are good and the bezel snaps shut nicely. Just a little wear to the catch button, with the red wax filler showing through.
The gold cases weigh 53 gms (excluding movement and crystal). This watch is in unusually fine condition. The only minor fault being the wear to the catch button of the outer case.

There is a William Turner listed in Spitalfields, London from 1735 until 1775.
