He was a muralist, illustrator and stained glass designer. Lived in North Shields and studied art at local evening classes and went on to attend Armstrong College which is now Durham University where he studied for four years under George Hatton. During his time at the college he was awarded the silver medal for highest placed student in all subjects, he also was the Kings prizeman in design, with honours. He went on to win a silver token for his figure compositions which featured in the Government exhibition of work. He also gained guidance from professors Lanteri, Letherby and Moira whilst studying at the Royal College of art. He travelled to France and Belgium painting street scenes. He exhibited between the years of 1926 - 1930. He exhibited and the Royal Academy (2) and the Walker Art Gallery - Liverpool.

A North African Town by Artist Leaver, Noel Henry (1889 – 1951). watercolour 10"x14" signed original Mawson Swan label dated 9/11/27. Artist Biography Born in Austwick, Yorkshire in 1889 but is better known as a Burnley artist. He started his training as an architect and became one of the youngest ever pupils of the Royal College of Art when he started his studies at 16. His earlier paintings are softer and looser than his later more accomplished works, but still show his fine understanding of detail and construction. Particularly known for his treatment of skies. Leaver won numerous scholarships and travel bursaries and used them to travel to visit Europe and Northern Africa. His earlier works in which he is still developing his style are usually signed in mixed lower & upper case Noel H LEAVER ARCA. In later life he usually signed in capitals NOEL H LEAVER, dropping the ARCA. Leaver is probably most famous for his ’Eastern’ views. These are his North African based works with their distinctive vivid blue skies, arches and mosques. He is known to have widely exhibited throughout the North East, North West and Yorkshire.

A fine watercolour painting by Edward Walker depicting cows returning to the farmyard. Edward Walker was a multi-talented landscape painter, poster designer, etcher, black and white artist, craft worker and designer who worked in oils, watercolour, tempura and frequently painted rural and town scenes. Walker was born in Bradford on 17th January 1879 and studied at Bradford College of Art from 1895-1900, Royal College of Art 1900-06. He also worked in Holland, Belgium, Spain, Italy and Morocco. He later become Head of the Design Department at Sheffield Technical School of Art where he worked between 1906 and 1908. He then became Head of the Art Department at London County Council Paddington Technical Institute from 1908 to 1911, and thence Director of Art at Cheltenham Ladies College from 1911 to 1920. Finally he took the post of Headmaster at Scarborough School of Art from 1921. Walker exhibited widely including Royal Society of Arts, Birmingham (3) Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts (1) Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool (3) Royal Academy of Arts (28) Royal Society of British Artists (6) Royal Cambrian Academy (1) Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (1)
