West Country Painted Pine Chest of Drawers c.1825
Of desirable proportions the West Country painted pine carcass, having wonderful paneled sides and reeded cornicing the whole in the original dark chocolate brown black painted finish, with two short over three long graduated and cockbeaded drawers displaying the original knob handles, the whole standing on bracket feet, and surviving in original condition from the first quarter of the nineteenth century and recently removed fresh from a Devonshire farmhouse.
The chest shows some rather attractive wear and tear with scuffing commensurate with its age, but the whole is superbly original order and the drawers run smooth with the carcass structurally sound. There is a possibility that the bracket feet are later. The overall patination to the chest is outstanding and the handles are original.
The heady combination of originality, colour, proportions and quality of the piece makes it very desirable and hard to find.
