Walnut Cylinder Top Pedestal Desk c.1860.
Splendid mid 19th.c. walnut cylinder top pedestal desk c.1860. Lift the cylinder cover to reveal a fitted interior of pigeon holes and maple veneered stationery drawers over a slide-out 40″ x 19″ work surface, the centre panel lifting to form a reading slope. Raised on twin pedestals with three drawers of graduated depth to both, and a kneehole space between. Of ingenious design, a moulded gallery around the top prevents things slipping off, whilst three lifting panels to the desk surface provide extra space for documents and stationery etc below. Superb quality with solid walnut sides and drawer fronts and mahogany drawer linings. A polished rear face means the desk could be used standing in the centre of a room rather than against a wall. Fabulous condition, retaining the original turned knobs, brass and locks. Cleaned and polished in our workshops. Keys supplied.
