Vintage Art Deco Butterfly Wing Silver Pendant

Fabulous, and in superb vintage condition! - This is a gorgeous piece a beautiful butterfly wing picture fabulously set to a sterling silver round pendant marked as Sterling measuring c.3/4" (1.9cm)dia, it is one of the prettiest I have seen. Depicting a fabulous picture of a lady in a crinoline dress and a bonnet holding a bouquet of flowers - reverse painted under the clear glass cover. Set to an 18" inch long sterling silver chain - a delicate fine example - nice, bright vibrant colours to the wing, showing only natural colouring, in superb order this is an adorable piece and it will delight the most discerning of collectors. Whilst this bears the appropriate patent numbers, it does not have the makers signature, this is a particularly nice Art Deco example of the wonderful butterfly antique jewellery often attributed to Thomas L. Mott of England.
Thomas Mott (TLM) exhibited his beautiful reversepainted butterfly wing jewellery at the British Empire Exhibition of 1924. His company was the largest producer of butterfly wing jewelry in the 1920"s/1930"s. Becoming a favourite accessory of the Art Deco period, these pieces are now becoming highly sought after and collected.
It was in 1922 that Shipton Co of England applied for the patent (202212 & 202213) for the design of using Butterfly Wings for the production of pictures, but it is generally Mott that is credited with their rise in popularity and also used the same patent numbers.
