Victorian Silver Jam Spoon, Lee & Wigfull, 1898

This is an elegant late Victorian Sterling Silver Jam Spoon from the 1890s. The spoon is made in Sheffield by Lee & Wigfull and dates to 1898. It is a very well made item in a good gauge of silver.
Jam Spoons are often much more highly decorated than other spoons and this one is no exception. It has an extravagant finial with flowing foliage down the sides and a fan shaped top. The back of the finial is also decorated with threading running down both sides of the stem. The bowl is also engraved with an elaborate fan design.
The spoon is in very good condition with no dings or dents and only very minimal wear. Nothing more than you would expect on a spoon of this age and use. It is perfectly usable today or would make an attractive addition to a collection. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 12.6cm long and weighs a substantial 16.6g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowl, are well struck and very clear to read. They are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter "f" for 1898 and the HW makers' mark for Henry Wigfull of Lee & Wigfull.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
