Victorian Silver Coffee Spoon with Gilt Bowl, 1897

This is a very attractive late Victorian Sterling Silver Coffee Spoon with a Gilt Bowl. The lower part of the stem has a barley twist whilst the upper part is decorated with scrolls surrounding a blank cartouche.
The coffee spoon is made in Birmingham by Joseph Gloster and dates to 1897. Joseph Gloster registered his first mark at the Birmingham assay office in 1888 and set up business at the Lion Silver Works. The firm produced a very wide range of silverware and were quickly successful, becoming Joseph Gloster Ltd in 1901. They remained in business up until around 1980.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the bare minimum of superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 125 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The coffee spoon is 10.5cm / 4.1ins long and weighs in at 9.1g / 0.32oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowl, are somewhat rubbed but still easy to decipher. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter x for 1897 and the J.G makers' mark for Joseph Gloster.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
