Victorian Silver Butter Knife, Atkin Bros, 1888

This is a high quality Victorian Sterling Silver Butter Knife in the traditional Old English pattern. It is made by the well-known firm of cutlers and silversmiths Atkin Brothers in Sheffield and dates to 1888. Atkin Brothers were in business at the Truro Works in Sheffield for just over 100 years from 1853 to 1958. They produced a wide range of consistently good quality silverware primarily for use in the home.
This butter knife is in a classic Victorian style of the Old English pattern with a scalloped blade. Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and only superficial surface wear. It has clearly been well looked after for the last 130 odd years! It would look very smart on any dining table today or would make a good addition to any collection. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The butter knife is 13.5cm long and weighs a substantial 24.3g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter "V" for 1888 and the HA makers' mark for Harry Atkin of Atkin Brothers.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
Overseas customers please ask us about shipping costs before making a purchase.
