Victorian Silver Bookmark, W.H. Leather, 1899

This is a lovely Victorian Sterling Silver Bookmark in the shape of a trowel. The bookmark is made in Birmingham by noted silversmith William Henry Leather and dates to 1899. W.H. Leather started his firm in around 1895 and specialised in making small items for personal use. He was later joined by his son and the business continued up until around 1930.
This is a nice quality bookmark made entirely of silver. Many of the ones you see have mother of pearl or agate handles but this one is solid Sterling Silver. It has an attractive engraving on the handle and a dot pattern around where the handle joins the blade. It is perfectly usable for keeping track of your place or would make a fine addition to a collection.
Whilst the bookmark has definitely been used, overall condition is good with just a truly tiny ding to the tip of the trowel, which doesn't detract from it's function or appearance. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bookmark is 5.9cm / 2.25" long and weighs in at 1.9g / 0.07oz.
The hallmarks down the tongue of the blade are very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "z" for 1899 and the W.H.L. makers' mark for William Henry Leather.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
