Victorian Silver Belt Buckle, T.W. Jackson, 1897

This is an attractive late Victorian cast Sterling Silver Belt Buckle with a hinged central section. In true Victorian fashion, the buckle is extensively decorated with scrolls, flowers, shells and winged cherubs or angels.
The buckle is made in London by Thomas William Jackson and dates to 1897. We haven't been able to find out much about Thomas Jackson except that he was active in London between the late 1870s and the early 1900s and was both a silversmith and an importer of foreign silver.
Condition is good with no dings or dents. The hinge is not quite straight but is in full working order and the clasp is secure. A small shell at one end of the buckle is bent over but this could be straightened if desired. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The buckle is 14.9cm / 5.9ins at its widest point and 6.5cm / 2.5ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 67.0g / 2.36oz of solid Sterling Silver.
Both end sections are fully hallmarked with the central section having a partial hallmark as you would expect. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter b for 1897 and the T.W.J makers' mark for Thomas William Jackson.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the buckle.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
