Victorian Mahogany Dining Room Buffet.
19th c antique mahogany Buffet or Serving Table.
Designed for Victorian dining rooms, these are really practical, as well as elegant pieces of antique furniture. They can hold all of the accessories needed for both setting a dining table, and serving a meal. They were frequently also used for Breakfast Buffets.
The lower two cupboards have removable shelves and offer storage for plates, dishes and tureens.
The lower open shelf would frequently have had wine and liqueur bottles and glasses as well as cutlery trays, and bowls of fruit etc. The top shelf is a comfortable height for serving from and would have dishes and tureens prepared and ready to take to the table.
This example is of the nicest quality and style. In terms of design, it has clean geometrical features more in common with Georgian and Regency furniture.
The shelves are of finely figured single pieces of mahogany and the craftsmanship is of the highest order - an illustration of which is the carefully executed curved outer edges to the door frames, and cross grained veneered plinths, also with curved corners.
Excellent antique condition and soft wax finish.
Original working brass and ceramic castors.
The lock to the right hand cupboard door is missing its key but the door closes firmly. The left hand door retains its inset brass bolts top and bottom. ALL OF OUR ITEMS INCLUDE FREE UK MAINLAND DELIVERY.
