A WORK IN PROGRESS.
A superb English gilt overmantel of most impressive proportions. At 2.25 metres in height and 1.75 in width, this is one of the finest frames I have had. With separate columns that are fluted and twisted.
It arrived in a rather sorry state and has been painstakingly rebuilt using the traditional composition on wire method. It is awaiting regilding in the areas where the oil gilding has not survived. As you can see, however, much of the water gilding is still extant.
The glass will be replaced as the original had been badly damaged.
The back is original and in very sound condition.
