The Tichborne Sterling Silver Spoons

A case of 20th century copies of The Tichborne Spoons by The Birmingham Mint.
The original spoons were made by William Cawdell (originally though to be by Christopher Wace), a specialist spoon maker supplying spoons wholesale and to commission, and were supposedly given to Sir Robert Tichborne when he was Lord Mayor of London in 1657.
The spoons each show a celebrated character from history and legend, nine spoons depict the 'Nine Worthies' and the other three are Christ, St Peter and Queen Elizabeth I.
The Worthies consist of three Jews: Joshua, Kind David and Judas Maccabeus, three Christians: Guy of Warwick, King Arthur and the Emperor Charlemagne, and three pagans: Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and Hector of Troy.
The spoons are fitted in their original case and come with a brochure showing the history of the originals.
All the spoons are in excellent condition. (Circa 1979)
Spoon: Length 12.5cm (4.9 inches)
Width 3cm (1.2 inches)
