Superb Gillows Rosewood Library Chair

A superb solid Rosewood George IV Library Chair, having a cane seat with black leather swab seat and back cushion. The chair having a beautiful ring turned spindle back and sides with scrolled arms. Raised on turned front legs with splayed spurred back legs, retaining the original brass cup castors. Amazing profile in excellent condition throughout with great colour.
The Chair attributed to Gillows as stamped to the seat rail "PP". This maker although the name unknown was a chair make for Gillows and is referenced in the Westminster Archives, more information available on request.
The chair has a spurred back leg which is thought to have been made to sit on a rail to keep in position, it is possible this chair was made to be used on a boat. The spurs are thought to be original as the timber quality is the same as the chair.
