A magnificent and rare find, this is a most charming figural double dinner gong with two children sitting on a naturalistic base. The frame is in the from of a wooden country pathway sign, in this case engraved both sides "Come This Way" the top crowned with a wise old Owl.

The gongs hang (the black cord has been replaced, the old cord was falling to pieces) from the signs, I am unsure if they should hang with the children,s backs showing or the owl and gong strike showing, they can hang either way, so whatever is your preference (see the photos).

The base and sign are both blessed with an English Design Registration number (110907) which allows us to date it to 1888.

A magnificent piece in excellent condition. The base measuring 6 1/2" x 6" and standing 10 1/2" tall to top of Owl.
