This is a good early 20th century Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the traditional Old English pattern. The spoon is made in Birmingham by silversmiths George Nathan & Ridley Hayes. The date letter is rather rubbed but it is in the style introduced in 1900 and Nathan & Hayes ceased trading in 1916, so we know it's between those dates. George Nathan & Ridley Hayes made a range of silver tableware in Birmingham between 1897 and 1916 and had a retail outlet in London's prestigious Hatton Garden.

The spoon is well made in a reasonable gauge of silver. It has no initials or personalisation of any kind and is perfectly suitable for use with a variety of condiments today.

The mustard spoon is in good condition with no dings or dents and only the most minimal surface wear. It has clearly been well looked after for the last 120 years.

The spoon is 7.8cm / 3" long and weighs 5.4g / 0.19oz.

The hallmarks on the underside of the bowl are a little rubbed but easy to decipher for the most part. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham and the GN over RH makers' mark for George Nathan and Ridley Hayes. The date letter is a little too rubbed to be certain but is definitely in the period 1900 to 1916.
