Silver Elgin half hunter pocket watch.
The watch has a 15-jewel gilt stem-winding movement, grade 365, which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and the serial number 18,429,348 dates it back to 1915.
The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has a 1927 inscription from Denaby British Legion Benevolent Fund.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the three covers for Birmingham 1926 with a case maker's mark for Aaron Dennison of the Dennison Watch Case Company.
The difference in dates confirms that the movement and case did not start life together. Often a complete movement or case would have been changed as a more economical alternative, in the case of water damage for instance, or serious case damage.
Cosmetically, the case is in good condition and the front has a small central lens surrounded by enamel filled Roman numerals. The back cover opens out to more than the original 90 degrees.
The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition. The bezel is rose gold plated, we have seen a few of these contrasting bezels over the years.
The signed dial is in lovely condition with blued steel hands, including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
