Silver & rose gold Electa half hunter pocket watch
Antique silver and rose gold Electa half hunter pocket watch.
The watch has a good quality Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement, which has been identified as by Electa, has nicely patterned plates and a Breguet hairspring. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has an inscription, 'Christopher Southward, Dec 10th 1912, from NFD'.
The watch measures 47mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver with a rose gold chapter ring to the front, inset with dark blue enamel filled Roman numerals. There is a small bruise to the side of the watch and a little unevenness to the case back.
The case is hallmarked inside all three covers for London (import mark), 1911 with an importer's mark for Arthur Rendell. In 1907, an act came into force which meant that all imported watches had to be assayed in a UK assay office and marked with British import hallmarks. For this, a sponsor's mark was required. In this particular case, Arthur Rendell was an employee, and probably in charge, of the department that handled imported watches at a company called Pringles, the UK's largest wholesalers of antique jewellery, silverware, antique clocks and watches, so it was deemed relevant to use his initials.
The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside there is a glass lens which is in lovely condition.
The dial is in very nice condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
The watch comes in an antique presentation box which is showing signs of age and wear but still nice to have.
